CARLYON BAY 2022

Big thanks to Sandy and Ian for great rally everybody had a great time.

BURNS NIGHT 2022

Thank you everyone who joined us at our first Rally of the year at the Fox and Hounds for our Burns Night celebration. We had 15 vans – 13 SWP, – 1 Nene Valley and 1 West Country. The weather was cold but beautiful with amazing sunsets and sunrises. Some members walked the moorland and tors whilst others took advantage of the Granite Way to walk or cycle (as we did) enjoying hot chocolate and cake at Bundu. I think we all visited Tavistock over the few days. Friday afternoon we all got together for a mulled wine and chat even though it was frosty! Friday night saw us in the skittle barn practising for the trophy! Saturday we all enjoyed a Burns supper where Barbs recited the Ode to the Haggis! We later retired to the skittle alley where Joe, 15 years old, became our youngest skittle trophy winner. Well done Joe!! Thank you all once again for making this a very enjoyable Rally.

BUDE 2021

Thank to everyone who came to our Bude rally making it an enjoyable occasion. Whilst the weather was inclement at times and we would have liked some more sun, people were able to get out and about walking cycling and some even braved the sea for a swim. There is always so much do to that the event never seems to be long enough. Even though the temperature dropped cooler in an evening we managed to gather for 3 of the 6 evenings. We had a bingo evening with only one person managing to win on two occasions so at least the prizes were shared out. Our senior moments quiz evening caused much laughter with us all agreeing it was an evening to be repeated. On our final evening we held our raffle and had an end of holiday party with drinks and nibbles plus some music, this was the best evening weather wise enabling us to sit out for longer.

WADEBRIDGE 2021

Thanks to Sandy and Ian for hosting an enjoyable event at Wadebridge. We had 16 vans with only one visiting van from West Country.

Thursday evening saw everyone gathering to a very social event lead by Sandy in which we are still awaiting to discover how “Cauliflower Cheese” works! Friday saw a group of us walking into Wadebridge across the fields lead by Bob and Margaret, people then enjoyed browsing the shops and lunch before making there way back to the site. A group visited the on site bar in the evening for an enjoyable drink. Saturday saw many out cycling to Padstow, with some catching buses outside the site to visit places further afield. We gathered in the evening to have a quiz, not our usual men’s vs women’s but east vs west as we were seated in a circle next to friends. West won by a short margin. Sunday saw just 7 vans remaining to enjoy afternoon tea and biscuits and a few card games. A site that everyone agreed was worth returning to.

MOUNT EDGCUMBE 2021

Our event at Mount Edgcumbe was a successful weekend with a good turnout and enjoyed by all despite the classic car show being cancelled. Our thanks go to Bob and Margaret for hosting. People enjoyed some wonderful walks and boat rides to the Royal William dock yard.

ST AUDRIES 2021 – HOME FARM

Our TC at Blue Anchor took place at the start of July. We welcomed members from SWP, West Wessex, Essex, South & West Wales, Avon, Northern Counties and Seven Valley. It was good to see so many new faces as well as old hands.

Our first evening we gathered in two socially distanced groups for a meet and greet with nibbles and drinks. Everyone enjoying seeing old friends and meeting new, it was so good to hear so much laughter and happiness after the past year. Friday night saw our traditional men’s vs women’s quiz with our resident quiz master. As usual the men won all because they are more sarcastic than the women! Many people went out walking or cycling or ventured to Minehead, Dunster or Watchet. Saturday evening saw everyone inside their vans watching with bated breath at England V Ukraine in their quarter final match. The result made coffee morning and the raffles a merry affair. Sunday saw some vans leave us and some of the remaining members enjoyed a Fish and Chip supper in the pub next to the site. The chatter between everyone on their tables was cheerful and everyone agreed that it rounded off our first TC of the year. This was a new site to our group and all attending agreed that it was somewhere we wished to return, hopefully when the steam train was running a full service, which due to restrictions in place was not the case tis year.

WATERGATE BAY 2020

Report from Cathy Gough

Watergate Bay – Temporary Campsite15th to 18th October

We had eleven motorhomes – 1 from Northern Counties and a mixture of SWP and WC. We were blessed with good weather every day except Saturday when it was cloudy a bit chilly – but made much brighter watching Exeter win the European Hieneken Cup.

Everyone enjoyed the chance to walk the coastal path and made good use of the buses to Newquay and Padstow. A new to us path to the Travellers Rest in Trevarian was well used.
We want to thank everyone for supporting us in these unpredictable times.

Lady’s Mile (Dawlish Warren) 2020

Many thanks to John and Chris Howard for organising a fantastic temporary campsite at Lady’s Mile, Dawlish. We had 42 vans to join us from SWP, West Country, West Wessex, Avon, Yorkshire, East Midlands, Wales, Severn Valley and Anglia we were all treated to fully serviced pitches which was a luxury and gave everyone plenty of space . To top it all the weather was glorious with the evenings staying warm enough for people to sit out in up to groups of six enjoying an evening drink and catching up with old friends as well as meeting new. Everyone got out and about in the day with cycle rides, train trips, boat rides, walking or just lazing on the beach. We have the site booked for next year, yet again  with fully serviced pitches. As long as we can get co – hosts to help run the event we hope it can go ahead, so to all those SWP members who attended and enjoyed it why not consider helping us to make sure it can go ahead.
